In 1971, the median income in the United States was $10,290, reaching five figures for the first time. The average price for a house was $25,200 and the average cost of a new car was $3,560. Walt Disney World opened in Florida and admission for adults was $3.50.
It was also the year that Ernest Earnheart opened a full-service gas station in Marshall, Oklahoma. This single venture was the seed from which the Earnheart company would grow, laying the groundwork for a family legacy built on dependable service.
Ernest later passed the business to his son Edmund and daughter-in-law Shirley, who turned the single gas station into a thriving fuel supply company, called Earnheart Oil, which served much of Central Oklahoma. Through smart acquisitions and diversification, they launched Earnheart Propane. In 2010, their son Troy became president, leading the third generation of Earnheart leadership.
